For authorities.

Nordvar is a Swiss start-up evaluating a first site in Iceland: a compact, liquid-cooled data centre, designed so that in a later phase its waste heat can drive the permanent removal of carbon from the air. This page sets out what we propose, in what order, and what we hold ourselves to.

In this order.

  1. Phase 01

    A data centre

A pilot module on a leased plot - the smallest unit that is truly a data centre - then a building fitted out in stages as tenants sign. Built only once permits are granted, then operated to produce real data: power, heat, cooling. It stands on its own; nothing about it depends on the second phase being approved.

  2. Phase 02

Carbon capture - a separate phase

Permitted separately, in its own process, and run with established operators. Whether the capture unit is built alongside the data centre or after it operates depends on the financing of each phase; the first build carries the preparations for it: liquid cooling, heat-loop connection points, and space for CO₂ handling at the plot boundary.

What we hold ourselves to

Permits before building
Building starts only when permits are granted and the criteria of a written gate are met. A gate cannot be argued past: if the criteria are not met, the work pauses.
Phases, not promises
Dates are not announced. The dates that bind belong to permits and counterparties, and they do not exist until they are in writing.
Verification by an independent body
When removal runs, every tonne is measured, tracked to injection, verified against a recognised standard, and counted once.
The location, published when secured
The area under evaluation has existing industrial infrastructure and grid access. The exact location is published when a site is secured, not before.
Established operators
Capture units and mineral storage come from operators who already run them. Nordvar's part is the data centre and its heat.

Who is asking

Nordvar is a Swiss start-up in formation, working with advisers. Organisations involved are named when they have agreed to be, and progress is shared directly with the people involved. Every message to the address on the contact page is read by a person.
